University-Industry Partnership- UIP Program

The UIP Program

University-Industry Partnership (UIP) in Research & Development (R&D) of products and processes plays a vital role in the economic development everywhere in the world. However, in Pakistan, at present, the volume and scope of this partnership is very limited due to a variety of reasons. Working in isolation is one of the major reasons.

UIP Program aims to build a bridge between different research centers and related industrial enterprises for the development and commercialization of various research products.

Institute of Research Promotion (IRP) is working to promote University-Industry Partnership in collaboration with number of other organizations/R&D institutions. IRP invites national and international stakeholders to support and contribute in the noble R&D movement.

UIP Program aims to:

·        Promote university-industry partnership

·        To facilitate UIP linkages

·        To facilitate real-time UIP projects

·        To build institutional capacity for UIP

·        To bring UIP stakeholders together

UIP Projects in Process

Following are projects have been initiated with support of partners. Other organizations/people are requested to be the part of this noble cause and support R&D efforts.

UIP Portal

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry(LCCI) and IRP have launched a UIP portal to facilitate exchange of potential innovations and industry demand for innovations. The UIP portal is a database of local research, technologies and ideas for further commercialization.

UIP Symposia- Building Industry Trust

UIP symposia are being conducted in all Chambers of Commerce and Industries of Pakistan. Industry would is shared with research potential and inspired to trust on indigenous knowledge. Pakistan Science Foundation, PASTIC and IRP are conducting regular symposia and other partners are invited to support.

Faculty Training on UIP

IRP has initiated a program to conduct various workshops on UIP related concepts. Faculty of the universities and researchers are trained on practices like project management, writing fund winning proposal, making partnership work in research. IRP has designed 10 training modules on capacity building of faculty on UIP to be delivered the universities of Pakistan. Universities are invited to host these workshops

  

UIP Projects in Proposal

Followings are the ideas and proposed plans to be initiated. The people/organizations having interest are requested to collaborate and materialize the proposed plans.

UIP Projects - Industry Driven Projects by University Graduates

UIP Projects Program has been initiated jointly by a Chamber and IRP. The graduates of the universities are inspired through various incentives to do academic projects for industry.Incentives include required training, liaison with industry, Rs. 10000 from related firm and certification by Chamber  and IRP. The UIP Projects Program aims to develop culture of industry-driven projects by university graduates.

UIP Magazine –IRP Review

 

A UIP magazine is being published by IRP, presenting prospective of industry and academia regarding R&D and academia-industry linkages. The magazine is a good source of first-hand information related research expertise of academia and R&D requirements of industry.  People are requested to contribute thoughts which can support UIP concept and promote R&D culture in Pakistan.

UIP Services- A Business

A consultant organization is planning to initiate UIP services as a business activity. The business model includes; profiling faculty skills, identifying industry problems, sorting out economically viable skill Vs problem areas and ensuring smooth service delivery.  

UIP Achievement Award

Annual UIP achievement award of PKR5,000,000 (fifty lakhs) would be established for successful indigenous technology transfer. Each award would be of 1,000,000 (ten lakhs), equally shared between industry and researcher/academia. The organizations are requested to pledge the funds and help to materialize it. .

UIP framework- Rules and Regulations for Partnership

UIP framework includes guidelines and regulations like UIP draft, contract guidelines, technology transfer guidelines, IP management and managing ownership issues. These types of documents would be written and published. Business schools, management and law scholars have relevant skills and are encouraged to produce/write such documents
